Only a few days ago Zara was soaring the #Hollywood sky in a Boeing Stearman☀️🌎. Now, she just landed at the the "Boeing Airfield" in Seattle, Washington, officially known as the King County International Airport. The field was named after the founder of Boeing, William E. Boeing. It was constructed in 1928 and serving as the city's primary airport until the opening of Seattle-Tacoma International Airport in 1944.

The Boeing Company continues to use the field for testing and delivery of its airplanes. It is also used by Air Force One when the President of the United States visits the #Seattle area.

The Boeing Stearman was built in greater number than any other American #biplane. In the early days they were mainly belonging to the elite of rich and famous, for hauling mail or sold to oil companies. But, just before WWII till 1945 more than 8,600 primary trainers were produced for the US and British Empire armies.

Of very simple and rough construction, and difficult to master - therefore perfect for training - the PT-17 Kaydet was called the "yellow peril" because of its difficult ground handling and landing characteristics. It was said that if one could land a Stearman, one could almost certainly master any other aircraft without problem. Many people don't know that most WW II combat pilots, achieving their glorious exploits on Mustangs, Spitfires, Lancaster etc. had in fact, taken their first lessons and been trained as cadets in the cockpit of a Stearman. Only very talented pupils were accepted, some of which had not even driven a car before, and they were expected to solo after only 6 hours with a tandem seat instructor.

How many female combat pilots from the US WASP (Women Airforce Service Pilots) or from any other nation, would have trained during WWII in or ferried a "yellow peril", you think? Would YOU take off in it after only 6 hours training??? 😅🤪😬✈️
