Girls Who Code is a non-profit organisation on a mission to close the gender gap in tech. They are working towards changing the image of what a programmer looks like.

Through their online resources, campaigns, books, and advocacy work, they have reached 500 million people across the world. They have taught 450,000 girls through their in-person coding programs, with 50% of the girls coming from underrepresented groups.

“We’re not just preparing our girls to enter the workforce - we’re preparing them to lead it, to improve it, to completely and totally transform it.“

The founder of Girls Who Code Reshma Saujani began her career as an attorney and activist. In 2010, she surged onto the political scene as the first Indian American woman to run for U.S. Congress. During the race, Reshma visited local schools and saw the gender gap in computing classes firsthand, which led her to start Girls Who Code.
